Hidden in a steep-sided valley just south of Yátor in the Alpujarras, Spain, el valle de sensaciones is a marvel of art, invention and gorgeous eco-buildings. It’s original intension was to to be a cultural centre and to create an ‘artistic sustainable paradise’. This is no eco-village nor eco-community and there are very few residents. Achim, the founder, runs a broad variety of courses and workshops on practical eco-building skills (among other things) for which people travel far and wide.

Resonance swing

Body experience of resonance

There is a swing on each of the two pyramids constructed with oak. A rope ties both swings up, so that the movement of both are coupled. That leads to tricky effects.

Space sound string

The magic sound of infinity

There is a 50 meter long musical string running over the middle point. It is tied on the eucalyptus tree on the other side of the valley. Its sound reaches the pentagonal resonance room through an aluminium stick. Due to the length of this string, its basic pitch, this means its basic vibration, is so slow that it cannot be heard by the ear, but it can be seen by the eyes.

Swinging platform

Floating on a carpet of sound

The vibrating surface invites to float, swing, dream, sleep as well alone as in society. The many strings tuned to the same frequency which are installed under the surface, are activated through its movement and create a "sound carpet" which makes the visitor swing into the world of dreams. This sound is not only perceivable through your ears, but it goes through the whole body and has a healing effect.

Energy design. Chaos, factor-x, the unexpected This is the place in which existing structures dissolve into chaos allowing the new and unexpected to emerge. It shows the potential which is held within every change, the sense which is behind the dissolution and receptivity in times of disorder, which is just waiting to let the New be created.

Surrounded by fragrance

The bed with its composition of smelling plants surrounds the visitor who can hang out in its interior and enjoy a bath of different smells. When you walk outside, around the installation, you can smell the individual plants.

Spiral of foot experience

Feel the base

Take your shoes off, close your eyes, and let your feet feel the ground and feel the way that leads to the centre. This spiral way is made out of many different materials: lime, sand, foam, cork, wood ... The feet get alive and stablish a conscious contact to the ground, contact which has gotten lost in our world of concrete. Close your eyes, let yourself be guided by your feet through these changing feelings to the centre, where a refreshing bath for your feet is waiting for you.

Surprising functions in the crazy energy structure

The energy from the sun is transformed into electric energy by some solar panels build into the sculpture. You can follow this process through some measuring electronic instruments which are visible through a glass. This installation feeds the complete illumination of the garden.

Sound-tree

Sounds are living between roots and branches

Awake the sounds which are dreaming in cavities and niches and between the roots. Achim found this ancient olive tree which was hanging out in an artificial lake in Portugal. It must have stayed for a long time in the depths of the sea, until its rotten roots brought it to the surface. The many holes that it has tell about its maybe millenarian history. Now there is a sound dreaming in each of those holes and is waiting for you to discover it.

Flowforms

Water in a swinging flow

The special form of these bowl make the water, which is pouring into them, swing. It swings and forms an “eight” shape, as a wave which flows alternately to one and the other wing of the bowl. This movement is not only magic for the viewer, but it also stimulates the capability of water to clean and regenerate itself. It corresponds to the natural flow of water, which moves vibrating into the shape of meander.

Cave

Sound space in the belly of mother earth

Come in into the cave, into the belly of the earth. In this darkness you will also come in touch with yourself, with your inner voice, maybe with your intuition, or maybe even with your fears. This cave has the shape of a dome; this makes the voices and other musical instruments sound magical and powerful, and seem to get across the earth and across your own body. The resonance pitch is in tune with the earth pitch and it is therefore in tune with the main pitch from our planet, which express itself also in the transition of day and night.
