Clay construction
Clay is an amazing material.
It is a composition of mineral particles, which is offered by nature to us for a variety of uses.
From the very first contact, the material is caressing your skin. Clay has a healing power for wounds, is able of sucking infections out of the body, heals the digestive apparatus and much more.
You can get it into shape either with your hands or with some tools; in either ways it is a smooth, moldable material of great adherence. It invites us to experience our creativity, may it be doing small sculptures or artistic constructions.
Specially for the construction of houses and other bigger objects, it offers the possibility of a direct and creative modeling, more than any other construction material does.
At the same time it is an ideal ground for inner spaces, since it has excellent health and climate qualities, great mechanical resistance, very low impact on the atmosphere and a low price. With convenient techniques it is possible to build buildings of several levels which last centuries.
At this workshop we will be taking a glance to the characteristics of this construction material and on the construction techniques used all over the planet. We deal with many tricks and maybe some additives to enhance its characteristics. We will explain all the steps: How to get it, to rate it, to mix it, to use it and to decorate it.
We will be also dealing wit lots of constructive elements and their fabrication with clay: floor, walls, ceilings; seats, ovens and even bathtubs. It is possible to do all of that with clay in a creative way.
Of course, we will be touching and experimenting this material at the closest, since we will be doing all the steps in practice: from rating the material to mixing it and applying it. We will be working on pending projects at the valley, may it be a little artistic house, a sculpture, an oven or any other thing. Following the weekend workshop we will offer the possibility of staying the whole week getting deeper into what we learned and doing some different experiences.
